Turkish Fashion Magazine

The publishers of the new Middle East 'Cosmopolitan' magazine hope that women are the same around the world. The cover of the Turkish fashion edition looks like a clone of the parent magazine, featuring blondes in tight dresses.

Many think that an American-based magazine that is one of the most instantly recognizable symbols of Western gender ideas would be a hard sell in Middle Eastern cultures, but that hasn't stopped the magazine's publishers from preparing to sell a new edition in Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Lebanon, as well as Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. And it isn't that difficult to imagine Cosmopolitan finding an audience in Beirut and Istanbul, where more liberal Arabic societies have long existed. The magazine's publisher insists that they will vary the format from country to country to take account of local sensibilities.

Sebnem Ferah Turkish Fashion

Looking through the Top 10 albums at any music store in Turkey, one is sure to find a Sebnem Ferah album. The Turkish fashion icon and music superstar has just released another critically-acclaimed album titled My Name is Forest, and judging by her looks on the cover, she draws comparisons to Amy Lee of Evanscence in her style. They both emit a "rebel angel" persona, with dark clothing, dark makeup that verges on a goth look, and they both have beautiful voices that soar over a hard rock backdrop in their songs.

Sebnem Ferah's sound is somewhat of a twist on late 80s hairmetal music, but with female vocals and lyrics about depression and destruction rather than partying. The instrumentation ranges from accordian to piano, but most of her songs use minimalist verses and power guitars over which Ferah displays her soaring vocals and beautiful harmony.
